The Arena Lviv is a brand new stadium in Ukraine that has been specifically built for Euro 2012. Work on the stadium began in 2008 and it was officially opened in November 2011 as preparation begins for the European Championships. The stadium is one of the smaller venues at the tournament, with a capacity of 34,195, and it will host three group stage matches.
The stadium is expected to become the home of Ukrainian club side FC Karpaty Lviv, who currently play in one of the city's other stadiums, the Ukrainia Stadium. Lviv also boasts the SKA Stadium, and interestingly both of the Ukrainia and SKA grounds are based more centrally than the new Arena Lviv.
Thankfully, the new stadium has excellent transport links from the city of Lviv. The city itself is in the Western part of Ukraine and it is regarded as one of the most cultural cities in the country as it boasts large Polish and Jewish communities. It was voted as the best Ukrainian city to live in a couple of years ago and it is bound to prove popular during the tournament as it is located so close to the border of Poland - making it an ideal stopping point for fans looking to watch matches in both host countries.
The stadium hosted its first match on November 15 and it is set to host three Group B matches during Euro 2012.
