Euro 2012 - Quarter Final
Friday 22nd June - 7.45pm BST - BBC1
Arena Gdansk, Gdansk POL
Germany and Greece will go head to head in the second Euro 2012 quarter final on Friday night. The Germans who are one of the favourites to win the tournament topped their Group B with a 100% record and face a Greek side who shocked Russia in Group A to qualify as runners-up.
The Germans boasted a 100% record in qualifying for these finals in the Ukraine and Poland and Joachim Low's side have continues in the same vein here in the finals and are the only side to have won every match so far. A 2-1 win over Portugal in their first match, two goals from Mario Gomez were enough to see off the Dutch in a crunch second match in Group B before going on to beat the Danes, also 2-1 in their third and final match to confirm their progression to the quarter-finals as Group B winners.
Greece won this tournament eight years ago in Portugal and they are showing that same kind of spirit in reaching the quarter-finals. A 1-1 draw against Poland in their opening match, despite having a player harshly sent off was followed by defet at the hands of the Czech Republic. Only a win against the fancied Russians in their final Group A match would do and that's exactly what they did 1-0 to set up this quarter final with Germany.
It's no surprise that the Germany are long odds on favourites to win this quarter final and progress to the semis.
